I have Chronic clinical depression with anxiety related OCD. Without meds I really can't cope. I've tried (following promises of healing and the "Christians shouldn't get depressed" stuff)! I've beat myself up for years and seen myself as a failure instead of accepting that I have an illness that is just as real as, say diabetes or asthma. I'm overweight and I comfort eat, in my case the alternative is self-harm. Both are bad ways of coping. I've not self-harmed for a few years, and I'm sure God will also deal with the over-eating in time, but for now it's the lesser of two evils.
I'm avoiding the obesity thread as I don't feel up to a guilt trip just now!!
