Nick and Roger had a differing of views on whether God is in some sense
"Limited" in his freedom to act to stop evil. Roger took the view that God has
to some extent limited himself in order to allow human freedom. Nick took the
view that God is never limited in his ablilty to act, but that we are not in a
position to second guess how God's purposes for ultimate good may be served when
he allows events such as the Haiti earthquake to take place.
They both
agreed that the problem of evil needs to be taken in balance with the positive
arguments for God's existence. It is by no means an absolute proof of God's
non-existence.
