Hello

Check out the show of Sat 30 Jan 2010 on the Problem of Evil."Where was God in Haiti?" features Roger Forster of the Ichthus Christian Fellowship debating Atheist Gordon Livesey and "Unbelievable?" regular listener and student apologist Nick Peters

Interestingly Nick and Roger had a differing of views on whether God is in some sense
"Limited" in his freedom to act to stop evil. Roger took the view that God has
to some extent limited himself in order to allow human freedom. Nick took the
view that God is never limited in his ablilty to act, but that we are not in a
position to second guess how God's purposes for ultimate good may be served when
he allows events such as the Haiti earthquake to take place.

They both agreed that the problem of evil needs to be taken in balance with the positive
arguments for God's existence. It is by no means an absolute proof of God's
non-existence.

Did anyone hear Bart Ehrman’s debate against Richard Swinburne on the problem of evil last year?

I wonder if Swinburne rubs his hands from inside his Oxford ivory tower when disasters such as Haiti and the Boxing Day Tsunami occur and thinks, “Splendid! God is administering yet more gratuitous pain and pain suffering. This is a perfect opportunity for me and the other Dons to show courage, patience and sympathy! Anyone fancy another brandy?”

Is that it, vicar? Even Marx did better.

"the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions."

Thomas Merton wrote that the best evidence for God is when people sacrifice.

It really is pointless arguing with that sort of platitude. Love is proof of God and so is needless slaughter. Could there be ANYTHING that could diminish your opinion of a god? Presumably god is a priori perfect, so "No".

Leafy Sussex is as further from reality than from Haiti, it seems.

Go! Your flock needs fleecing.
