so folks this is the thread to put a little about yourself,if you write poetry when and how did you start? Who inspired or encouraged you/or otherwise. Did you read your poems to anyone? The cat, the chair or another living human being? Do you read poems, whose do you like, do you prefer rhyming or non, do they flow of the pen when inspiration strikes or to you chew over every line? Anything you like to put in these are a few ideas. Please add a "sample poem" and a photo of yourself if you are able.. If you are a member of this group but dont write poems , tell us about yourself and what poems you like.

You're obviously a prolific writer Cecilia. Is there a likelihood of a book? The internet however is so much cheaper and does reach a wide audience.

Hi Anne, sadly , though I self published a book, poems are not much in demand and especially Christian themed poems.
The lewder or cruder they are the better it seems! .I wrote a poem about that too!
I wrote this one for Valerie's husband after she died.

Change the gender to ‘him’ for a wife grieving for her husband

For those grieving their wives

The Legacy of Love
I miss her most in the morning, when the sun from its sleep does arise.
When I reach out my hand I remember, and wipe off the tears from my eyes.
I go to my work and I miss her, she’s not there to kiss me goodbye.
As I walk through the rain I can picture, a time there was no need to cry.
I told her I loved her quite often, and she said that she loved me as well.
She would never have left me here grieving, in this sadness I’m living in hell.

I miss her most at the noontime, when the sun is so high in the sky.
I gaze at her portrait before me, and I yearn for the time that’s gone by.
*When children were happily playing, and we planned for the future ahead.
Just when the future looked brighter, I’m alone and without her instead.
Each day I am trying to face it, a life that’s so bleak and so cold.
I thought we would stay here together, till all of our dreams did unfold.

I miss her most in the evening, with the work of the day at an end.
We’d sit there together just closely, she was my life... my very best friend.
She’d smile and ask how my day went, as I told her, she’d give me support.
A laugh, a joke and a cuddle, in her trap of sweet love I was caught.
I felt so safe in her presence, she wanted to give me the best.
Our lives were one for the other, and now she’s at peace and at rest.

I miss her most in the night-time, when I wearily slip into bed.
I feel her spirit beside me, my love transcends all that is dead.
No-one can know how it’s hurting, this grief I carry alone.
Though all those around me are caring, this pain is the worst I have known.
With Jesus beside me I’m coping, for I know that He understands.
Dear Lord I pray you support me, for I’ll always be safe in your hands.

Cecilia Jane Skudder (Cjs)
God bless and lvoe from Cecilia.

Cecelia this is a lovely poem, capturing so well the simple absences at different times of the day- yet finishing with an affirmation of faith despite the depth of pain.

I wrote a poem "In rembrance" when a neighbour died, and I find if I place a pile of poems for people to chose from - that one ineviatbly goes first. I use the internet a lot to circulate poetry, prayer, articles etc.. as there are no printing costs. However this isn't accessible for some of our older friends, so I have them sinly on cards at coffee mornings or in Churches open to the public- especially near the votive candles if possible.

I also printed a small selection called "Journeying" which I get printed as needed. Would Macmillan or the Hospice movement be interested in publishing yours?- I know Cruse etc..has done something similar.

Thank you Anne, I would like to see your "In Remembrance"
I had tried publishers but gave up on that and used to put the poems in the Church newsletter. I was living in a different area and then did their newsletter every week so was able to do this. My church in this area has a very small newsletter, though I regularly update the website so could find a corner for my poems, but is that usrping my position?
I just got disheartened from those early rejections and wondered if I was not good enough I suppose. I didn't try the hospice movement for the same reason and Macmillan the publisher is not the same as Macmillan cancer relief. I didn't try them either. I think I felt I was being too proud trying to get them published. I do have a web site but only a freebie which is not easily accessed unless the site address is known. It is... www.waxpoetical.bravehost.com You are welcome to look. Again thanks for the compliment about the above poem.

it is interesting how many peoples "poetry launch" was from a traumatic event. There seems like there are two types of poets, "those who were born poets and those that have poetry thrust apon them" to miisquote shakespeare. I wrote my first poem for over 30 years to read at the funeral of my daughter 2 years ago. I wanted one about Rainbows and could not find quite what I was looking for. The poem is on this site somewhere :-)
