Forgiveness

Forget the pain, live again
Forget the angry words and bitter tears
Years of hope and space
Can re-create years of sorrow and hate.

There is always tomorrow.
But how hard it is to forgive
Easy to believe in its value
Harder to live out the reality of it.

But you come and help me Lord
Remind me of the cross and the loss
You had to bear
Your share of betrayal and heartache.

Those you chose
Rose and turned away.
Sold your friendship
For a few measly pieces of silver.

Now I remember why I should forgive
If I had lived then I would have done the same,
I am no better than them,
The ones I struggle to forgive.

If I put myself in their shoes
I lose each time.
Forgiving them I only forgive myself
For not being better, purer, more holy.



Their spiritual health is mine
Their failings mine.
Then all at once I am led back in time
To the cross.
And your loss is mine,
The life I took was yours.
