HI Julian
Paul Carrack was the guest on yesterday's 'In the Bag' and the song 'The Living Years' is one of his hits! I'll check if it's possible to hear the show again and come back to you.
All good things

Hi - I had Premier playing in the background while chasing about the house trying to field poorly children yesterday, and the song "The Living Years" came up on this show but I didn't really hear the story behind it. Is there any way to listen again on this show? Or could someone relay the reasons it got picked - it's a truly great song - Thanks!

oh yes! I can't possibly list the music there is so much Stuart Townend, Hillsong, Michael W. Smith and so forth....music, Bible, fellowship, church, prayer, being mentored, spending time in His presence....much to be thankful for....

Two books had the deepest impact....Pilgrims Progress and The Calvary Road. Spending time with God...quietly. The certain knowledge that He is there all the time and He never leaves and NEVER changes...it is me who leaves and it is me who changes. Prayer and the ability to hand things to God. Forgiveness is enormously liberating. Worship and praise. My faith bag is big and it is almost always full but never heavy to carry!

In my Faith Bag is the gift of prsyer that i use often, the gift of forgiveness which i use when someone has sinned agianst me, a greater love which I share with my family & my girlfriend Mewlisssa & the sweetest peace which I received at 6.25AM Melboune Time on Tuesday October 14th 2008 when I asked Jesus Christ into my life as my Personal Lord & Savior.

"In the bleak midwinter" means a lot to me - particularly the last verse.

The items in my faith bag are:-
1. Spend time in God's presence - even if He does not seem to be there – He is. Sometimes our busy, unquiet minds prevent us from 'tuning in' to Him. Listen to God - He speaks to us in many different ways. Find a time when you will not be disturbed and a place, even if it is the bathroom!

2. Read God's Word every day. A good version of the Bible such as the Life Application Study Bible with insights can really help. Bible Reading Notes work through specific topics during a period of months or weeks. I have been reading Every Day with Jesus for years and I find it very helpful to sit down each day with the Bible, the reading notes and a notebook and make notes of Scripture or the commentaries that particularly speak to me each day. At the end of each period I read through my notes and I am always amazed at how God has spoken to me and guided me.

3. Be part of a local church community. As Christians we are not meant to be alone. We need Christian friends to pray for us and spend time with us. Being involved in the life of a church provides a focus for life and the views of other Christians help us to see things from different angles.

This may take some time and also be quite hard at first but, as I found, perseverance paid off. In my case I had moved away and had to find another church in a completely different part of the country. I had spent about 18 months wandering around from church to church and felt really quite alienated and low. One day I just opened my heart to God in prayer, in fact I got quite angry and for once was really honest about how empty I felt. A couple of weeks later God gave me a picture of the church I am now part of. This picture would not leave me alone, I kept getting it. The Minister of this church had written an article in a local newsletter. I don't usually bother to read this newsletter but on this particular occasion I felt compelled to do so and read this article. At first I thought, this is totally mad but I'm going to go there anyway on Sunday and see what happens.

I have now found a local church where I feel that I am part of the community. I am making friends and really enjoying my life now.

4. As a result of listening to Premier Worship I found out about the Freedom in Christ Discipleship Course. This made a huge difference. Visit their website and get copies of the 4 books. I did this and I took all 4 on holiday with me and read them cover to cover. I could not put them down. The insights and help I received from these has helped me to unload years of rubbish and the lies of the enemy.

5. Develop a patient and listening spirit. Sit quietly and let God know that you are ready to hear what He has to say.

6. Praise God even when you don’t feel like it. Thank Him for all the good things that He has given you in your life and the people that you love.
