Technically I think that Saul had reached a point of no return, and also the son in question was Jonathan. The witch was suprised becaue she got an answer, the point is the supernatural as you rightly point out is dangerous, and not a game, not even reading our stars. So yes you should point it out to people, amany christians think it is not that bad, it is, and it cannot be accepted by God. It is as fateful as dying.

I looked up the scripture and it does say sons, you are right. I do think that the occult is forbidden to Christians and is a dangerous thing, but I disagree about the witch of Endor channelling a demon. I think she called up Samuel's ghost. Are all the psychics today who pass on messages from dead loved ones really always calling up demons? I just think there are lots of things we don't know anything about and I believe in both demons and ghosts.

Looking at the passage, 1 Samuel 28, it speaks about the battle and the result of the battle. All of those sons of Saul who were at the battle died. However many commentators suggest an alternative, that it was not Samuel that appeared to Saul but Satan or another demon who deliberately drove Saul to despair. The evidence in favour of this is that Saul was not saved and would not have gone to Heaven and there are no incidents of the dead returning to speak to the living.

John Gill says:
Not a word of comfort does he speak unto him, it being the business of this foul spirit to drive him to despair by the permission of God; had he been the true Samuel, he would have directed him to have altered his course of life, and especially his behaviour toward David, and advised him in those difficulties to send for him, who might have been of singular use unto him; he would have exhorted him to repentance for his sins, and humiliation before God on account of them, and given him hope on this that God would appear for him, and work deliverance, as he had done; but instead of this tells him, that he and his army would be delivered into the hands of the Philistines, which he might make a shrewd guess at, and venture to say from the circumstances of things, and the situation Saul and his people were in; the armies of the Philistines were very numerous, and those of Israel comparatively weak; Saul was quite dispirited, and God had forsaken him:
