Where are the fathers? Do you think they are doing there work of raising children?

I keep wondering what has gone wrong to the generation of today, when I go to church, to my dismay, I only find women, I mean mothers with their children. My question is, where are the fathers? They seem to have forgotten there roles as anchors of the families.

May be I am missing a point, may some one tell me what are the roles of the fathers in a home?

I agree and as diocesan evangelist in the diocese of Chichester a small group of us are seeking to mount a Christain Vision for Men day on the 22nd November 2009. However let me give one possible answer that I was reminded of recently after spending a week decorating, cleaning and doing a dozen little d.i.y.jobs to bring our house back up to srcatch for new tennents. Like a lot of men these days I spend a lot of time around the computer, talking, sharing ideas, etc. All good stuff but nothing like working away with your hands, seeing them dirty and grimy, having an aching back and then seeing something physicaly transformed. So never mind the choir robes give the men some overalls and ask them to teach simple car maintenance, diy, or get them to build a wall or something in the church. Mix it with worship, coffee, breaks and times for a chat. And perhaps end the day with a good curry. Let's get real, too much of what hapens in church is passive, touchy, feely, suits some men and nothing wrong with this. But perhaps let us look again at Jesus the labourer and learn some lessons!

Simply put, church as we currently tend to 'do it' favours women (and to a lesser extent, younger children of either gender) far more so than it does men, or boys once they hit around 15. Girly images of Jesus which are probably historically inaccurate don't aid the cause much either...

'diocesan evangelist' ... sorry to sound thick but, what's that? I thought evangelists were like, just evangelists. Didn't know there were types, aside from the office of evangelist which I guess is sort of different. Of course, we're all called to BE evangelists as and when, and some are just called to do it more often :)

Anyway, would be cool to know.

You may have a point my brother, that is , depending on the reasons you have. But a car never run on a flat tyre, a horse can never stay without hay, a human being without breathe can never survive for more than 30 minutes.

The bible tells us, go to the world, produce, multiply and subdue the earth. This can only be achieved through marriage. The world may be such a bad place according to you, that no one wishes to get married, that is according to you, but who makes this world bad? it is you and me. Who can changes this world to the best place we want it to be? Still it is you and me. So lets make our strides to the right direction with the guidance of the Lord and we shall have hope anew, at the end of the tunnel.

The church is good for you my brother, we need to rediscover our selves. every book we read, everything written has an origin from the bible.

Read that library of 66 books called the bible and you will get to know that whatever happens today has been talked about and there are also measures of stopping something from happening.

God bless you and hope you will realise what entiles in the kingdom.

Belonging to a live church helps us men, but also men like to think they have value, not just seat warmers !
True, there is no real difference in the abilities of men and woman, yet men, rightly or not , think their help is needed,
yet have little to lead or do....men needs to feel wanted and of value.
Suggest finding or making roles for them. Its fine to talk about their role as anchor for the family yet not find that churches
ignores their skills and experience.
What gives me the experience to say this, just almost 50 years of seat warming in christian churches !

Hi Moses, I am a Christian - my husband is not. Iron sharpens iron. I think the men who are still in church need to be strengthening one another, calling one another back, and evangelising those who don't yet know Jesus. I think women more naturally do this, but men are maybe scared of treading on each other's toes in this country. Moses, please get out there and sharpen some iron for Jesus! But remember, not everyone has had the advantage of an African heritage that has inspired them. May God strengthen you and extend your territory.

Thanks for that note Amanda, so inspipring your messenge was.

men out there, did u hear that? You need to think twice and make sure you take that move so that we can have you reknow christ and make him your personal Lord and saviour this way we will have reason to care for our dear families and also to make sure that the children are brought up in the ways of God (Proverbs 22:6).

The key to the betterment of the next generation, is into your hands and what you do today will determine what will happen tomorrow.

Let us make Jesus famous with our actions and let us advocate for more believers and also advocate for the children.

God bless everyone. Sharing Christ's love

I am a father and i have a big role in my family with disicipline, teaching, putting them to bed etc i go to church with my wife and children, sometimes on my own with the children and there is a lot of men at my church, so i dont know where this has come from?

Lee, you church is just one in the whole world. Have you not heard of men who impregnat women and run away, running from responsibility of fatherhood? How many men do not spend quality time with their children? how many children are doing drugs because of lack of guidance from their parents? Tell me?

Sorry i thought you just meant in church as a whole, i agree with you on that with the fathers but these men should not be called fathers at all.

Fathers should be the anchor of the family. That is what i believe but this has been lost somewhere and i blame a Godless society. People dont realise how important God is to a society, the rise in teen pregnancy, single parents, kids doing drugs etc is on the rise and the amount of people going to church is declining

There is a trend!

again apologises for not reading the original question proper!
