Is technology rightgeous? Surley it is not. I do believe. And if it is not.. Than what is it? If you do believe so stongly in your debate about how technology is rightgeous, step up and be a man of your beliefs, let it be known, let your opinion be heard, do not let your beliefs be unspoken. Humor me..Please. And if it is not rightgeous, than it must be evil.

whoo hoo...I get to go to bed early!!!
Let me start with these passages;

Genesis 2:9 (NIV)

9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:17 (NIV)

17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

Genesis 3:22 (NIV)

22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."

And so the ‘Man of Clay’ was expelled from the garden to toil for his existence. But Adam had tasted of the tree that gave him knowledge (which God could have removed from his mind at any time) and thus began a quest to ease the burdens of his fall.

Technology is a term with origins in Greek, basically meaning - “having a skill or craft”. It is a broad concept that deals with human as well as other animal species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment.

Technology affects our lives and our surroundings in a numerous ways. In many cultures, it has helped develop more advanced economies and reduced poverty and improved living conditions. The ability to control fire increased the available sources of food and the invention of the wheel helped humans in travelling in and controlling their environment. Technological developments, such as; the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale.

However, not all technology has been used for peaceful purposes; the development of weapons of ever-increasing destructive power has progressed throughout history, from clubs to nuclear weapons. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products, known as pollution, and deplete natural resources, to the detriment of the Earth and its environment.

You began your discussion with the question ‘Is technology righteous?’ and ended with ‘ And if it is not righteous, than it must be evil.’

But let us consider these salient biblical passages;

Noah built an ark;

Genesis 6:14-16 (NIV)

14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. 16 Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

David built a temple;

1 Chronicles 23:2-4 (NIV)

2 He also gathered together all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites. 3 The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand. 4 David said, "Of these, twenty-four thousand are to supervise the work of the temple of the LORD and six thousand are to be officials and judges.

And … even Jesus himself learnt and used the skills of carpentry, handed down by his father Joseph.

Matthew 13:55 (NIV)

55 "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?

It is not technology that is evil, it is the application of our God given skills and gifts.
