I have encountered Angels three times in my life. By the way they do not have wings as usually stated, especially at Christmas times. My first encounter was when I had taken a group of nurses to a theatre in London. I had to wait around a couple of hours or more, so I had parked the bus/coach on the Embankment. I was feeling quite lonely at the time and had started to nod off or so I thought, when there was a knock on the bus door. At first I thought it was some rough guy looking for trouble, yet there was something different, and I had a feeling I knew him, even today I cannot explain. I shared my soft drink with him and he shared his bagels with me, and we talked, what we talked about I cannot remember it was probably spiritual and about music, books and loads of things. Anyway the time seemed to speed by and it was soon time to pick up the nurses, however I could not remember how and when he left, but I felt inredibably peaceful and no longer lonely.
My second encounter was on a train journey from Westgate-on-Sea to London, I was reading a spiritual book 'The Cross and the Switchblade.' When at one station a group of young lads came on and started shouting about, so I kept my head down and continued to read my book. I was aware of the loud lads, but I just kept reading, I knew there was no more stations until London, however I looked up once and saw a large man sitting on the seat opposite me, he just smiled at me and I got back to my book. The lads were getting more and more rowdy, upsetting other passengers, yet they never even approached me or the man, and when I got out at the station in London the man smiled a waved at me as I walked down the platform, and I soon lost him in the crowd. To this day I am convinced he was an Angel sent to protect me.
The third encounter was very quick and simple, I had been on my first long retreat of eight days in silence and I was travelling on the underground into London after the retreat and my mind was feeling negative wondering if I had really encountered God through it. A man who was on the train when I got on, for had sat next to him, and as he got off at a station near London he said to me; 'You encountered God this week,' and then got off. I am sure he was an Angel come to confirm to me that I had definitely encountered God.
I have no doubt about my encounters with angels, however I also know there are sceptics out there that will knock them down, it is up to you whether you believe it or not, I believe it and that is all that really matters.

As there has been only one reply, I must believe that this forum is full of people who do not believe in Angels.

David Wilkinson right? ("Cross and the Switchblade") Reminds me of my old pentecostal days

But I've grown leery of "angels" and I suspect most Christians over here in America, have. If you lived over here through the '90's you would be sick of angels--at least, the "inner guides" the New Age Motivational Seminars began pushing, back then, to help you reach your business potential in the corporate world.

I was invited to attend a couple seminars that ended up quite tame: merely coaching one to "creatively visualize" your particular desired business success--and even specific desired possessions, like cars and other luxuries, until they came true for you--and these were quite guaranteed to come true--notions I recognized as Mary Baker Eddy's Christian Science if not outright Bhuddist, you know, Mind Over Matter and Positive Thinking etc--?

Rather offensive to me as a Christian, but mild, really, compared to other seminars I heard tales of (and read reports of) teaching groups of whlte collar professionals to not only visualize, but trance meditate until they reached such a point of "creative visualization" they found themselves in connection with a live animal (usually), which seemed to have a will and intelligence of its own, as well as ability to converse, answering personal and business questions .....and you could decide for yourself if this vision (very like the vision that Native Americans conjure up, as their own "inner guides" after their fasts and sun dances).....anyway it was up to you to choose whether you had gotten into communication with a "deeper" part of your own wisdom, like some Universal Consciousness, or....if you had been sent your own personal "angel."

And then everybody started wearing those jeweled angel pins on their shoulders. Along with an explosion of other angel jewelry. "Inner guides" are still popular, over here, quite accepted, especially in the psychology circles. But like I said, I'd read enough to recognize the source of the spirit beings, these modern Americans were playing around with, so naively...me, I have nothing to do with them.

Having found Jesus Christ as my Shepherd and knowing His voice and recognizing His Spirit.....I readily recognized these "other" inner guides as spirit belings from the Enemy.

All I can say is SEEK NO COMMUNICATION WITH ANGELS. Although they come across sweet and helpful, they are decievers, hiding their own agenda: using humans for their own gain.

Americans are now learning this sad truth the hard way. Once you invite them in, these "inner guides" have a frightening change of character. And once they are in your life, it's almost impossible to get them to leave you alone again.

(PS if anybody is reading this, who is desperate for their "guide" to go away....charasmatic "deliverance ministeries" that promise "instant" exorcisms, NEVER WORK. There is no quick fix, to get rid of these "inner guides" but the good news is, there is a slow fix. Get into an orthodox Christian Bible study. If you go faithfully, the voices recede, but it will take months. Be patient.)

I think that the reality is that genuine angels do exist. It is quite a brave thing to tell people that you have seen one (I've never knowingly seen one). Mary had an angel experience and you can bet that everyone around her thought she was loopy (even her husband). And that is still true today for people who say they have seen angels.

In popular 'angelology', white feathers signify the presence of an angel. I don't think that seeing white feathers means that they come from angels wings, but I think it is possible that angels have the power to direct the gaze of people and highlight things. So if, say, a Christian or a non-Christian sees a white feather then it could well be an angel trying to encourage that person (often if they are grieving). Even if demons masquarade as angels, genuine angels do, I think, exist because the Bible and Jesus say they do and there are just so many testimonies of people who have seen them (they can't all be deluded). I would love to see one, so, I'm probably very envious that you have actually seen one three times:-) I do believe you though.

Angels saved my life, I was choaking on a piece of toast and the kitchen was on fire, My husband had to see to the fire before coming back to me and I could not breath, I thought this is it, but two faces appeared they had black curly hair and were olive skinned, then they vanished and so did my toast.

Hey Chris, mine just seemed like 'golden light' so I assumed the hair was blonde - perhaps yours had their hair 'blackened' as they were pinching your toast! lol!!
Nick I think you are right when you say it takes a brave person to tell their stories on this site - Chris is brave enough to say anything as long as she thinks it's 'for' the Lord! God bless her (and I'm glad He 'saved' her - she's a 'gem'!!)

What is an Angel?

Up to this point we have formed a general impression about what angels do, but have explained nothing about their nature. St. Augustine wrote that “ ‘angel’ is the name of theirfunction, not of their nature. If you seek the name of their nature, it is ‘spirit.’ ”4 Precisely what a pure “spirit” or an angel is has been the object of much theological debate.
St. Thomas Aquinas thought that an angel is a totally immaterial, limited being which possesses a separate intellectual substance. In this light we see that in no way should an angel be mistaken for a ghost or a soul separated from a human body. An angel by its nature is created to exist apart from a body.
Because angels are not composed of any material substance whatsoever, but are held in being by God, they cannot decay and perish; and they are not vulnerable to physical injury or death at the hands of other creatures. Angels, like human souls, do not occupy a quantitative space. A human soul does not occupy any single part of the human body, and yet it exercises its power everywhere in the body. In this respect, angels are similar to the human soul, since they act upon the physical world and have effects there in large and small ways without occupying a certainplace.
Aside from acting as celestial couriers who deliver messages between God and humans, angels can also act directly on material things and can influence human actions in a number of ways. As we have already noted, the actions of angels on earth and in relation to human beings sometimes require that an angel assume a quasi-human form in order to accomplish a mission. Such an assumed body is not a living organism, however, but only looks and acts like one. How angels appropriate matter into a human form is their own practical concern.
The important point for us to remember is that the ultimate cause of all such change is God. Likewise, when an angel moves a material object locally, it is only by God’s will that this is achieved.
Angels assist us and only perform miracles as God’s agents, at his command and with his consent.
An angel can act indirectly upon the intellect and will of a person in much the same way as one human influences another. However, an angel’s ability to influence someone is far more powerful than any human attempt to do the same. Yet, even with their superior intellect and will, an angel has no privileged access to our thoughts or to our free will. An angel is able to stir a person’s imagination and emotions in persuasive and effective ways in order to influence the will. What an angel cannot do is infuse knowledge into a human mind anymore than a teacher can pour ideas into a student’s mind.

I know what you mean and I had a similar experience. I was investigating a certain organization and made a rather disturbing discovery. This was actually walking around the outside of the place I was investigating. I felt pretty sickened and started to feel a certain amount of despair and I decided to give up and go home. But I got lost when I tried to walk back to the tube station.

I came across this elderly Jewish man who was putting books on a low wall outside his house. I really like books so I slowed down and I wondered if they were to be taken. I decided that I couldn't just take one and started to walk away. He called to me and told me to take one. I had the completely overwhelming feeling that he was an Angel. He gave off this tremendous feeling of peace and calm and had a very comforting way of moving. My feelings of despair and misery at what I had discovered melted away in an instant. I carefully selected a book, which I still have, which is an old encyclopedia from 1921. It contains a mass of information and ideas that are no longer readily available. Of course Angels are messengers and carry information.

When I am really stuck with some problem I use this book as a last resort to give me ideas and surprisingly it has helped me sort out some really difficult problems.

There is an amusing side to this as it was an example of : "The writing on the wall".
